New in 2024: All 4-H and FFA exhibits must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Certificate) to be eligible to show. This Health Certificate must have been written within 30 days of exhibition. All cattle, swine, sheep, and goats must also be identified by either an ear tag, electronic implant or tattoo. This new rule comes from the Missouri State Fair and will effect open classes in 2025.

  1. 2024 initial pig weigh-in was April 11th – 5:30-7:30. Hogs must be owned by weigh-in.
  2. Exhibitor must be SMQA certified.
  3. All hogs must be pre-registered. Registration forms must be returned to the Howard County Extension Office by MAY 10, 2024
  4. Exhibitor’s help is expected in setting up the barn. Set-up is Thursday, June 13th.
  5. Exhibitor is responsible for grooming and care of his/her animal.
  6. All exhibits must be in place by 5:00 pm, Wednesday, June 19, 2024
  7. An individual may show two market hogs, but only one may sell at the fair sale. The highest placing animal shall sell.
  8. Minimum rate of gain for hogs is 1 pound per day to be eligible for champion classes as well as the premium sale.
  9. Hogs must be born  Dec. 1, 2023 or after.
  10. All swine will be stalled by 4-H/FFA club that exhibitor is a member of.
  11. The swine superintendent will require all swine exhibitors to drive their hog at some point during the fair, prior to showing. If they don’t exhibit the ability to drive their hog unassisted, they cannot participate in the show/sale.
  12. Each exhibitor will get one pen. If a second is needed they will be assessed a $10 charge. They must specify at enrollment and send payment with enrollment.
  13. Hog exhibitors may specify if they would like to stall in the middle isle, with the expectation that their pig is trained to drive and the exhibitor will provide mats and bedding.
  14. Hog pens will be designated by the Superintendent based on 2023 Fair.  These will be rotated each year.
