4-H BUCKET CALF SHOW

General Rules:
New in 2024: All 4-H and FFA exhibits must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Certificate) to be eligible to show. This Health Certificate must have been written within 30 days of exhibition. All cattle, swine, sheep, and goats must also be identified by either an ear tag, electronic implant or tattoo. This new rule comes from the Missouri State Fair and will effect open classes in 2025.
- Calf must be born between Jan. 1-May 1, 2024.
- Calf should be owned and hand-fed by project member since it was 2 weeks old.
- Calf may be any breed or sex (heifer, steer, or bull)
- Calf should be broke to lead and be shown by proper method.
- Exhibitor must be SMQA Certified.
- All bucket calves must be pre-registered. Registration Forms must be returned to the Howard County Extension Center by MAY 10, 2024. Forms are located at the Extension Office or your club leader.
- All calves must be in place by 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2024.
- Criteria for judging:
- 25% Presentation of the calf in the ring
- 25% Condition and health of the calf
- 50% Members knowledge of calf (age, breed, feed used, % protein, amount fed, how to mix feed or bottles, parts of the calf, cost, veterinary practices, etc.
- Calves cannot be sold at the 4-H Livestock Sale.
- Exhibitor can exhibit only 1 bucket calf.
