General Rules – Large Animals:

General Rules and Regulations

  1. If an animal loses their ID tag, call the species Superintendent to let them know.  You will also need to send a picture of the animal and the tag number…all 15 digits, to the Superintendent.  The vet will retag your animal when you go in for the county health papers.  The old tag number will be crossed out when the new tag is put in.  THEN, YOU MUST NOTIFY THE EXTENTION OFFICE, with-in a week, of this transaction.  The Secretary will need the name of the exhibitor, species and gender of animal, original tag number, and replacement number.  Health papers will be presented to the species Superintendent when the animal goes across the scales at fair weigh-in.
  2. Time frame for the initial weigh-in will be the Friday before and the Monday after the set date. Exhibitors must accompany their animals to all weigh-ins.
  3. Each species…Cattle, Hogs, Sheep, Goats…will have two divisions – Market Division and Breeding Division. You can sell an animal from one of the two divisions.  Hogs, Sheep, and Goats will show by weight in both divisions.  An animal can show in only one division.  Intact males, of any species, will not sell.  If you sell breeding stock it can only sell ONE time. Breeding stock must be weighed-in, at the initial weigh-in and meet the required weight gain, to be eligible for the livestock sale. No female in production is eligible to sell.  Only heifers, doelings, guilts, and ewe lambs are eligible.
  4. NO white ribbon exhibits sell!

General Rules – Horsemanship:

  1. 4-H/FFA Horseshow will be Monday evening of the fair. Exhibitors, with indoor projects, will be allowed to check-in first.
  2. Horseshow exhibitors MUST participate in the Horsemanship and Showmanship classes, for their age division, to be eligible for the high point award.
  3. Exhibitor may show two horses per game class, only the fastest time will count.
  4. Exhibitor must wear appropriate attire in Showmanship and Horsemanship:

Western-Cowboy hat, long sleeve button up shirt, jeans, and boots…spurs optional

English-Hat, jacket, pants, and English boots…spurs optional

General Rules – Small Animal:

All Rabbits/Poultry must be pre-registered. Registration form must be returned to the Howard County Extension Center by May. Forms are available at the Extension Office or through your Club Leader.

  1. The exhibitor must be SMQA Certified.
  2. All exhibitors must be members in good standing of a 4-H/FFA. All small animal entries must be submitted by registration deadline. No entries will be accepted after this date. Exhibitor help is expected in setting up the barn. Set-up is Thursday, June 19, 2025
  3. Exhibitors must care for their animals. All exhibitors must feed and water their stock the entire duration of the fair. Exhibitors are responsible to keep bedding clean and sanitary at all times.
  4. All exhibited animals must be free of any visible signs of infection, contagious disease, or parasites. Exhibitors may be asked to remove any project animal not in good health. Dismissal will be at the discretion of the superintendent and/or judge.
  5. All exhibited animals must be under the daily care and supervision of the project member from April 30, 2025, to show day. Poultry meat pen birds should be <13 weeks of age.
  6. No companion animals allowed.
  7. The greatest care will be taken of all animals, but the management will not be responsible for any accident, mistake, loss, or damage, regardless of cause.
  8. Rabbit show will follow guidelines as set up by Missouri State Fair and the ARBA.
  9. Each exhibitor will be limited to two entries per class. Different breeds are considered separate entries.
  10. Poultry exhibits will be judged in accordance with the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection.
  11. Rabbits will be judged on the ARBA Standards of Perfection.

*Must bring one dozen eggs of the same size color and consistency. Only Grand Champion Eggs will sell at the live auction.

Livestock Sale Regulations for Small Animals

  1. Must meet class requirements to sell.
  2. Champion Small Animals will stay from Thursday till the end of premium sale. There will be a place designated for them and pens available. Livestock Committee and Fair Board are not responsible for accidents or deaths.
  3. Only Grand Champion Eggs will sell at the sale. They count as one of the two items each individual can sell. Exhibitor must be enrolled in egg class.
  4. Only market animals will sell.
  5. White ribbon animals are not eligible to sell.
